Summer is a very lazy season with neighbors, friends and family going on vacation, enjoying their sunny days in world’s best exotic locations. It becomes an excruciating experience when you have to work all summer on brainstorming assignments. Since you have only a handful weekends and bank holidays to yourself, taking a vacation may not be a bright option. But you can take a break from your busy schedule, binge watch these top movies and press life’s reset button.




  1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011):

Arjun (Hritik Roshan), Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and Kabir (Abhay Deol) have a long standing pact of going on a bachelor’s trip.  As part of the trip, each friend chooses a dangerous sport for the group to partake. During the course of their trip the group is able to overcome their fears, realize the worthiness of life and a renewed friendship. A sequel to 2011 flick Pyaar ka Punchnama and continuing on the same note this movie lived up to the expectations of its preceder. A more mature and less misogynist (in comparison to its preceder) take on modern romantic relationships is depicted through the lives of three friends cum roommates and their love interests. The actors are well casted, the comic timing is spot on, the dialogues are unerring and who can forget Gogo’s seven minute long monologue. With a 7.3 rating from IMDB it is anything but boring.   1. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009):

A 2009 flick directed by Shimit Amin starring Ranbir Kapoor, Gauhar Khan and Shazahn Padamsee in her debut film. One of Kapoor’s early and lesser known work Rocket Singh depicts the story of Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) a graduate who desires to become a salesman and starts working at a leading sales firm. But to his surprise his honesty leads to his demotion and humiliation in a corrupt firm. This proves to be a turning point in his career and he takes a decision that would change his life forever. It is rare for a movie especially in Bollywood to have everything at once. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is similar to that elite group of students in a class who are good at everything. This movie has a good storyline, entertainment, a star cast to die for, melodious soundtrack with an item song featuring Madhuri Dixit Nene, 7/10 IMDB rating, 100 crore grosser and director Ayaan Mukherji who was only one film old and still made a sensible film. It follows the life of Kabir Thappar a.k.a Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) who does not want to live a conventional life but wants to live every single day to the fullest. Starring Alia Bhatt with Shah Rukh Khan, Kunal Kapoor and Ali Zafar in supporting role, Dear Zindagi follows the life of a budding cinematographer Kaira (Alia Bhatt), who is discontent with her life and meets a free-spirited psychologist Dr. Jahangir (Shah Rukh Khan) who helps her gain a new perspective on her life. There are no words to describe how good an actor Shah Rukh Khan is but the movie brings out the best in Alia Bhatt. The movie makes you jovial with its drunken scenes, emotional when Kaira shares her stories with her psychologist and contemplate after it ends. This movie is a must watch. It effortlessly chronicles 30 years of former Indian ODI, Test and T20 cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life in a span of approximate running time of 3 hours. Directed by Neeraj Panday with Sushant Singh Rajput playing the titular role this biopic keeps you glued to your seats until the very end. It consists an assemble cast starring Aamir Khan, debutant Siddharth Narayan, Sharman Joshi and Kunal Kapoor who are approached by Alice Patten a British Filmmaker to act in her documentary film with assistance from Soha Ali Khan, R. Madhavan as Soha’s fiancé and Atul Kulkarni joining the cast of the documentary film. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra this one is sure to leave you elevated to find a purpose. On the note of Aamir Khan here is another movie with him essaying the titular role of Mahavir Singh Phoghat father/coach who trained his two daughters Geeta Phogat (Fatima Sana Sheikh) and Babita Kumari (Sanya Malhotra) in wrestling with the former winning Gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and becoming the first ever Indian female to do so and the latter winning a Silver medal in wrestling at 2014 Commonwealth Games. It is a film that features sports in its purest form. Director Nitesh Tiwari does not topple from conveying his message in the midst of a robust story. In the midst of the entire hustle bustle it is nothing but natural to lose focus and if you are one of those people then give this one a watch and if you already have then give it another watch because it deserves it. “Babu Moshai zindagi badi honi chahiye lambi nahi (Gentleman life should be huge, not long)”, Anand. Accompanied by such significant dialogues penned by Gulzar and directed by Hirishikesh Mukherjee it is a story of an optimistic happy-go-lucky man named Anand (Rajesh Khanna) who is suffering from a fatal disease and his take on life. Amitabh Bachchan (Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee a.k.a Babu Moshai) plays the ominous doctor and friend to Khanna’s character. With an 8.9 rating on IMDB this movie is like a bottle of vintage wine, the older the better. One of the best Rajesh Khanna moments from Anand:

Our list of top movies would be incomplete without a cult like Andaz Apna Apna. This movie was very surprisingly an average grosser at the box office during the time of its theatrical release. The tale is of two daydreamers Amar (Aamir Khan) and Prem (Salman Khan) trying to woe a rich heiress Raveena Bajaj (Raveena Tandon) who has come to India accompanied by her secretary (Karisma Kapoor) in search of an eligible bachelor and eventually get married.
