Reliance Jio has taken the telecom industry by storm ever since Mr Mukesh Ambani launched the service. For around couple of years now, we have been surrounded by the JIO hype. I myself have been a vendor of JIO and hence I can surely say that Reliance has put in lot of time, effort and off course money into it! Jio has started tasting success, not monetary but surely by market share. 16 million subscribers in a month! Yes you read it right! They did not stop right here. They got 50million subscribers in a span of just 83 days. Jio also roped in arguably India’s biggest brand Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador along with being the jersey sponsor of 3 major IPL teams.
With all said and done, the main question that arises is, should the existing Jio users continue with Jio or switch to some other network?? If yes then why and if no, then again why?
Let us compare other service providers
Once known as the company which would provide best network. India’s second largest company by subscriber base and a market share of nearly 18.5%. Known for good network and shitty customer service, yeah afterall they are British. Recently they have announced merger with Idea which is expected to be complete by mid 2018. One should keep the merger fact in mind also.

-Please note that only 1GB of it can be used in day and remaining 1GB between 2am-5am.

Idea is a Mumbai based cellular network company belonging to the Aditya Birla Group. It is India’s 3rd largest company based on the subscriber count. It has around 190million subscribers in its market share. After the merger Idea-Vodafone together would be the biggest player in market with nearly 35-37% market share with Idea owning 45% of it. They will therefore be the biggest competitors to Reliance Jio.

There has been a speculation in the market that BSNL is going to merge with its younger brother MTNL to survive in the tough conditions. Being a PSU it is known for poor customer treatment and not so good services. The rates might be lower but services are not enjoyable enough.

Now let us talk about the biggest player in the market before Reliance Jio made an entry. Airtel has been one of the most successful companies and also has largest subscriber base in prepaid and postpaid phones.
-This plan provides you 1GB 4G data in a day along with unlimited STD and local calls.
-However only 500mb of it can be used in day time and remaining 500mb during night hours 3am-5am.
The latest entrant in the market with an estimated investment of nearly Rs.10,00,00,00,00,000 in the venture. Only reliance can do it! They entered market with a bang by offering free data during promotional period. During the promotional period reliance offered free 4GB 4G data daily along with free voice calling and SMSs. Reliance has claimed that it will never charge for voice calls in the future. In the extended phase promotional period Jio offered 1GB 4G data free to all its users.
Reliance came up with unique idea of having special customers by introducing Jio Prime @ Rs.99 a year. The benefits were customers could access jio apps which only run on jio data and not on other network. Jio apps include Jio TV, cinema, music etc.
Only time will tell whether people will go with Reliance Jio or not. But for now, we have made it easier for you to decide which way telecom network you should go with! On a personal note, I would suggest that there is no harm in taking Reliance Jio membership irrespective of the fact whether you’ll be using it or not.
